Description

The rodeo is held the 3rd weekend in August. For 2010, the rodeo will be August 19th - 21st. There are seven rodeo events that provide something for everyone: bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and the most dangerous of all, bull riding. Not to mention the rodeo clown antics, which the children love, and specialty acts that are sure to thrill the whole family. The New Windsor Fair and Rodeo kicks off with a street parade on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. It is a real slice of Americana, complete with handmade floats, antique tractors, drill teams, marching bands, fire engines, horses and of course who could forget candy! Friday starts early at the Fair. The food tents will be open for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. And the first horse show starts at 9:00 a.m. The Youth Show open to all area kids under the age of 18. Bleacher seating is available for this event. On Friday at 1:00 p.m. the children have their own "Kiddie Parade." The children and their parents make small floats, decorate bicycles and wagons, or dress as characters. Saturday is the final day for the Fair. It is starts with the Rodeo Run 2 mile and 4 mile event at 8:00 a.m. with registration opening at 7:00 a.m. The Rodeo Run starts and ends at the Fair Grounds East Gate. The "Hobby Building" houses the craft and hobby show, painting and photography competition, as well as flower, fruit and vegetable competition all open to public participation. The Fair also has a carnival, complete with rides for everyone and of course "fair food" like lemon shake-ups, hot dogs, funnel cakes and elephant ears . For those of you looking for a more well-balanced meal local churches have food pavilions on the grounds which serve hot roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes and homemade gravy, or pork chop sandwiches. Other area organizations like the Boy Scouts and the school booster club serve more traditional fair food, onion rings, nachos and soda. So be sure to bring your appetite. The fair grounds are located in New Windsor Illinois at the west end of town on Illinois route 17, or Main street of New Windsor. The New Windsor Rodeo is Sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Every performance of the rodeo includes bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. Plus rodeo clowns and specialty acts.
