Omaha, Iowa Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Hometown of Borsheim, second largest jeweler in America, Omaha is a gem of a town that sparkles with fun and excitement.

Dining out is a blend of foods from numerous ethnic cultures. Shopping is blessed with variety and a cosmopolitan flare that likens the retail scene to that of larger, more metropolitan areas.

This town is a multi-faceted cultural arena offering numerous opportunities for nightlife, arts and entertainment. A bounty of attractions and museums await. And accommodations are plentiful with something for every budget.

Parks and recreational activities are many here. Indoor ice skating is available at several facilities including Benson Park Ice Arena, Motto McLean Ice Arena at Hitchcock Park, and Moylan Ice Plex. Skateboarders and inline skaters will find their pleasure at Roberts Skate Park.

Omaha boasts 18 pools (12 traditional, 6 leisure) and 4 water playgrounds. Two are indoor facilities, open year-round. A plethora of indoor and outdoor tennis courts keep players swinging year-round. And with 9 municipal golf courses, there's no room for boredom.

With 80 paved trails connecting shops, schools, and homes, walking becomes not only a pleasure, but a serious means of transportation. The Keystone Trail/Bellevue Loop Trail is currently the longest path of the series. Other paths are still being constructed. When completed, the Back-to-the-River Trail will run for 11 miles along the Missouri River with views of the waterway.

Camping is also available at numerous parks. And facilities for fishing, biking, boating and horseback riding are easy to find.

There's no shortage of spectator sports, either. The 23,145-seat Rosenblatt Stadium is home to the annual NCAA College World Series as well as to the Omaha Royals Pro Baseball team. When the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights (Omaha's professional hockey team) hits the ice, crowds pour into the Omaha Civic Auditorium to watch the puck fly.

Other types of spectator sports include: horse and car racing, football, and rodeos.

Omaha, one of the largest cities in Nebraska with a population of 409,416, is located on the east-central border of The Cornhusker State.
